President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Lagos in the early hours of Friday following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom.
The president arrived at about 1:15 am at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
He is scheduled to join Muslim faithful later in the day for Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Dodan Barracks prayer ground.
Tinubu was received on arrival by Lagos State Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, wife of the Lagos State governor Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and other senior figures of the All Progressives Congress.
In his Eid message, the president urged Muslims to uphold the values of Ramadan beyond the fasting period. “We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion,” he said.
The trip, which Tinubu described as “a very thrilling and significant” engagement, marked Nigeria’s first state visit to the UK in 37 years.
During the visit, the president held talks with Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where both countries announced a £746 million agreement to rehabilitate key port infrastructure in Lagos.
Tinubu said discussions also covered trade, economic cooperation, climate change, terrorism, and broader global challenges, noting that both nations share “a vision of progress and resilience.”
A major highlight of the visit was a state banquet hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, where the president reviewed a guard of honour and received a 42-gun salute.
