President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm Kingsley Tochukwu Ude, SAN, from Enugu State, as a minister in his cabinet.
The request was conveyed in a letter read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary session. Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration and screening.

The nomination of Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, comes in the wake of the resignation of the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji. Nnaji, who was the sole minister representing Enugu State in President Tinubu’s administration, resigned last month amid controversy surrounding his academic qualifications and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.
His exit created a vacancy in the Federal Executive Council, leaving Enugu State temporarily without representation at the ministerial level.
If confirmed by the Senate, Kingsley Ude will replace Nnaji and is expected to bring his legal expertise and experience to the Tinubu administration. The date for his screening is yet to be announced.
