President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr Bernard Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, forwarding his name to the Senate for confirmation.
The nomination, confirmed on Tuesday through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, comes amid expectations of a minor cabinet reshuffle to fill two vacant ministerial positions.
Dr Doro’s appointment follows the elevation of Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, who was elected National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July. His departure from the cabinet created a vacancy that President Tinubu had been expected to fill in recent weeks.
According to Presidency sources, the President met privately with close aides on Monday evening to finalise names for submission to the Senate. Among the vacancies discussed was the position of Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, left open after the previous occupant resigned several weeks ago.
Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Dr Doro brings more than two decades of multidisciplinary experience spanning clinical medicine, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community development. He has worked extensively in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom, earning a reputation for professionalism and public service.

Mr Onanuga, in his statement, described the nominee as “a seasoned technocrat with the blend of medical, legal, and management expertise needed to strengthen policy implementation and service delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Dr Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA focused on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice. He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with frontline experience in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), where he has worked across urgent-care centres, GP practices, and hospital departments.
Beyond his medical and administrative credentials, Doro is also recognised for his commitment to youth mentorship, diaspora engagement, and community service initiatives aimed at improving health access and education in underserved areas.
If confirmed by the Senate, Dr Doro will be sworn in at an upcoming Federal Executive Council meeting and is expected to play a key role in advancing the administration’s human development and social investment priorities.
