President Bola Tinubu has included Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State and others, in Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The summit, scheduled for November 22–23, 2025, is historic as it marks the first G20 Presidency hosted on the African continent under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.”

Nigeria, along with other invited countries, will join leaders from the world’s largest economies and regional blocs, including the European Union and the African Union, for the meeting.
The inclusion of governors is a deliberate Federal Government (FG) strategy to enhance subnational involvement in global economic diplomacy, ensuring that international agreements translate into tangible benefits at the state level.
Mutfwang’s participation, announced by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, highlights Plateau’s increasing national stature.
He will join other governors in the delegation, including: Abdullahi Sule (Nassarawa), Umaru Bago (Niger), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), and Dikko Radda (Katsina)
The delegation’s primary focus at the G20 Summit will be to advance Nigeria’s core priorities across several key areas.
These include advocating for a fairer global financial system, expanding development financing, and promoting debt sustainability for developing nations.
The delegation will also champion responsible mining and greater value addition, drawing on Plateau’s historic experience as the first state in Nigeria where formal mining began.
In addition, Nigeria will push its position on climate-resilient development, adaptation finance, and an equitable energy transition.

Efforts will be made to promote job creation through policies that enhance market access, support SMEs, and stimulate cross-border trade, thereby generating employment opportunities for Africa’s youth.
Also, the delegation will seek partnerships to advance digital transformation and address food security, focusing on digital inclusion, infrastructure development, and international cooperation to strengthen agricultural resilience.
Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday to the summit.
