President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and representative for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State. 

Onanuga died on Wednesday following a brief illness, according to reports.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, President Tinubu paid tribute to the late lawmaker, describing her as a devoted public servant and a trailblazer for women in politics. 

Also, Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed his deep sadness following the death of Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and representative of the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State.

He noted that Onanuga’s tireless service to her constituents and her commitment to the betterment of Nigeria would not be forgotten.

“She never stopped serving her constituency, and her passion for building a better Nigeria will remain unforgettable in the hearts of those who came in direct contact with her,” the statement read.

“I am saddened by the news of the passing of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga,” Obi said.

“Her demise is a profound loss, not only to her family and colleagues but also to the nation at large, given her remarkable contributions to the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency of Ogun State and her service in the legislature.”

Tinubu also acknowledged Onanuga’s influential role as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly, as well as her current position as Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly.

“Rep. Onanuga was also a role model for women in politics, demonstrating that with hard work, integrity, and dedication to just causes, women can be effective leaders in politics,” the President added.

On behalf of the Federal Government, President Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to Onanuga’s family, friends, the government and people of Ogun State, particularly her constituents. 

He prayed for comfort for those grieving her loss and eternal peace for her soul.

In a separate development, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun visited Onanuga’s family to offer his condolences, pledging continued support during this difficult time.
