President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prince Doyin Okupe, a veteran politician, medical doctor, and strategist who played a crucial role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his condolences to Okupe’s family, friends, and associates, acknowledging his significant contributions to governance and national development.
Okupe, a prominent son of Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, served as the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan and as the Special Assistant on Media to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
His political career spanned over three decades, during which he held key positions, including National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

He was also a notable figure in the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Accord Party, where he served as the national leader.
Most recently, Okupe was the Director-General of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign for the 2023 election.
Beyond politics, he made remarkable contributions to the medical field as the co-founder of the Royal Cross Medical Centre in Lagos and as the publisher of Life Mirror, a health-focused newspaper.
President Tinubu described Okupe as a bold and articulate advocate for national progress, noting that his experience and insights remained invaluable to the nation.
He also commiserated with the people and government of Ogun State, particularly the Iperu-Remo community, mourning the loss of a distinguished leader.
The President prayed for the repose of Okupe’s soul and for God’s comfort upon his family and loved ones.
