President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to travel today for a two-nation visit as he attends the 20th summit of the G20 Leaders in Johannesburg, South Africa before proceeding to Luanda, Angola for the AU-EU summit.
The G20 meeting holds at the Johannesburg Expo Centre from Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, followed by the AU–EU summit in Luanda from November 24–25.
The G20 meeting holds at the Johannesburg Expo Centre from Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, followed by the AU–EU summit in Luanda from November 24–25.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.
On invitation by South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, who chairs the 2025 the Nigerian president will join leaders under the theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” which is the first G20 hosted on African soil.
Also expected to participate is African Union (AU), now a full member of the G20 alongside the EU.
The summit will encompass inclusive and sustainable growth, debt and development finance, disaster-risk reduction, climate action and just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and artificial intelligence.
According to the statement, Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings on the margins of the G20 “in furtherance of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” and to discuss regional peace, security and development.
After the G20 in Johannesburg, Tinubu will join other Heads of State and Government for the AU–EU summit in Luanda, which brings leaders, innovators and civil society together on climate, inclusive development, infrastructure, digital economy, the creative sector, manufacturing and agribusiness.
Senior officials, such as Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and the Economy, Solid Minerals, and Trade and Investment, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, will be accompany the president, who is expected to be in Nigeria at the end of both meetings.
However, Nigerians are clamouring for safety, security of lives and properties, as terrorists continue to ravage communities in different states of the country.
Between Sunday, November 16 and Tuesday, November 18, several major insecurity, kidnapping and killing have taken place in various parts of the country.
Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Monday killed a Brigadier General, Musa Uba, following the ambush of a convoy of soldiers and operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Borno state.
The terrorists ambushed the troops on Friday at Damboa Road along Wajiroko in Borno when they were transporting some military equipment.
The ISWAP fighters reportedly opened fire on the military convoy along the road — an incident that led to a gun duel between the troops and the insurgents.
Also, bandits abducted 25 students in fresh Kebbi attack in the early hours of Monday November 17 approximately 4:00am, arriving on motorcycles in an apparently well-planned attack.
The kidnapped of the 25 students comes after over 11 years ago Boko Haram fighters abducted 276 girls from their school in the town of Chibok, Borno State.
On Monday, November 18, bandits attacked a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the border-town of Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, on Tuesday evening, November 18, 2025. At least two people were killed and one injured in what authorities describe as a “barbaric” assault on worshippers and a frightening reminder of the growing insecurity that has gripped Nigeria’s border communities.
According to the police, the attack occurred at about 18:00 hours when gunshots erupted from the outskirts of the town. The DPO for Eruku, alongside police operatives and vigilante collaborators, responded swiftly, causing the hoodlums to flee into the bush.
While Vice President Kashim Shettima has been sent to Kebbi by Tinubu to condole with the families of the bereaved schoolgirls, Nigerians have questioned the silence of the president and his administration on insecurity issues, particularly as the presidency is yet to address the Eruku attack of yesterday.
Popular thespian, MrMacaroni had tweeted: “Nigerians are waking up to yet another terrorist attack on a church in Kwara state. We have a tone deaf President, a callous and irresponsible Government surrounded by the worst set of lunatics whose sycophancy and deception have made this country unbearable for the People!!!”
In another tweet, he asked: Does a responsible government permits its youth to be kidnapped and it’s innocent citizens murdered?
As of the time of publishing this report, neither has the president nor vice president addressed the situation and citizens.
