President Bola Tinubu departed Lagos on Sunday for Europe.
The trip serves as a continuation of his end-of-year break and a transition point before his upcoming official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Tinubu is travelling to Abu Dhabi in early January at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

The primary purpose of the visit is to participate in the prestigious Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2026 Summit.
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is an annual high-level gathering that brings together heads of state, policymakers, and global business leaders to address the most pressing challenges of sustainable development.
The 2026 edition of the summit is centered around the theme: “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.”
The summit aims to mobilise leaders by facilitating collaboration between government and private sector actors. It seeks to connect ambition with action, bridging the gap between policy goals and real-world implementation.
Additionally, it focuses on innovating systems by exploring the convergence of finance, technology and human capital to drive global progress.
The trip itinerary at a glance is as follows: On 28 December 2025, the journey begins with departure from Lagos to Europe for the continuation of the end-of-year holiday.
In early January 2026, the itinerary includes a visit to Abu Dhabi, UAE, to participate in the ADSW 2026 Summit. By mid-January 2026, the trip concludes with a return to Nigeria for the resumption of official domestic duties.

The State House press release, signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, noted that Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development and international cooperation.
Tinubu is expected to return to the country immediately following the conclusion of the summit’s high-level sessions.
