President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to hold the position since the institution’s founding in 1962.
The appointment, announced on 6 January 2026, takes effect from 10 January 2026 for a four-year term. Dr Odusote, aged 54, currently serves as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus.
She succeeds Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure concludes on 9 January 2026.
A distinguished legal academic, Dr Odusote earned her LL.B from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.
She obtained an LL.M in company and commercial law from the same institution, followed by a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, focusing on public law and the administration of justice.
Joining the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer, she has progressed through key roles, including head of the academic department, director of academics, and campus head.
She has also been a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University and contributed extensively to legal scholarship through publications in reputable journals and presentations at conferences.
In her new role, Odusote will oversee the institution’s academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across multiple campuses.
She will act as the principal liaison with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
