Kwara State Police Command has announced that three dismissed police officers have been remanded to prison for alleged criminal offences.
The force spokesperson and Deputy Supretendant of Police (DSP), Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi made this declaration on Friday through their social media handle.
According to the force spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi, he said the three officers were charged on October 16 for an alleged criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Qoyum Ishola.
“The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the three dismissed officers, Mr Abiodun Kayode, Mr James Emmanuel, and Mr Oni Philip, have been charged to court on 16 October 2024.”
“They face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola,” DSP Ejire-Adeyemi wrote.
Furthermore, he revealed that the officers will be held in prison pending the next court seating.
Background
In a statement released on Monday night by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Victor Olaiya, announced the dismissal of the three officers involved in the killing of Ishola, a 21-year-old student of Kwara State Polytechnic.
Recall that Ishola, a second-year student in the Department of Electrical Electronics, was allegedly shot by the police during a stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin on 4 September 2024.
The police have pledged to prosecute the dismissed officers in a court of competent jurisdiction.
