Human rights advocate and the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Nigerian Immigration Service of harassing him at the airport.
In a post on his X page accompanied by a video on Friday, Sowore accused Immigration of attempting to prevent him from leaving Nigeria because his name is on their watchlist.
He wrote: “The Nigerian Immigration Service #nigimmigration continues to subject me to unwarranted harassment and abuse. Violating my rights repeatedly.
“Today, again, they stopped me on my way out of Nigeria, claiming I am placed on their WATCHLIST!”
Sowore was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State in September.
The activist disclosed that upon his arrival, he was detained by the NIS, and his international passport was confiscated, stressing that it has become a regular occurrence.
