Members of the House of Representatives from the 17 states in Southern Nigeria have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.
Rising from a meeting at the National Assembly complex on Tuesday, the lawmakers however, urged the executive arm to consult further and seek input from more stakeholders.
Coming under the aegis of the Southern Reps Caucus, they hinted at possible amendment to some provisions of the bills before they could be passed.
While addressing a media conference, the leader of the group, Rep Nicholas Mutu (PDP, Delta), said the caucus had met earlier where their endorse the bills.
Mutu said the caucus was ready for dialogue on the bills, adding that the media briefing was the group’s first public outing on the bills.
The leadership of the House of Representatives had suspended further legislative actions on the bills until further notice.
A notice issued to that effect said the decision was to allow for broader consultations among key stakeholders.
