Residents of Elebele community in Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State were thrown into shock on Tuesday after a young man, identified simply as Israel, took his own life following an alleged relationship crisis.
The incident, which occurred within the community, reportedly followed weeks of emotional strain linked to a prolonged disagreement with his romantic partner.
Community sources according to Vanguard report noted that the young man had been battling visible distress in the days leading up to his death, raising quiet concern among those close to him.
Israel was widely regarded as calm, responsible and hardworking, making the development particularly devastating for residents who said the situation was unexpected despite his recent withdrawal from social interactions.
Following the incident, family members were left distraught as youths and elders of the community converged on the family compound. Traditional rites were subsequently initiated in line with local customs.
The Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that preliminary investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
The tragedy has cast a sombre mood over Elebele, reigniting conversations around emotional wellbeing, relationship pressures and the need for timely support for individuals facing mental and emotional challenges.
