London, UK – Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, in London following the former leader’s death on Sunday.
Shettima, who is leading the Federal Government delegation to repatriate Buhari’s remains, also met with the late President’s children.
Images shared widely on social media show the Vice President and the grieving family in a solemn atmosphere.
Former President Buhari died in London while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. His death brings to a close a significant chapter in Nigeria’s history, having served both as a military Head of State and later as a two-term civilian President.
During his presidency, Buhari spent over 225 days abroad for medical treatment, with his longest stay being 104 days in 2017.
The Vice President and his delegation are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday with Buhari’s body. Burial arrangements have been confirmed for the same day in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State.
