Vice President Kashim Shettima has charged emerging Islamic scholars across Nigeria and Africa to preserve and propagate the late cleric’s enduring message of tolerance, dialogue, and inclusivity.
He spoke yesterday at the burial ceremony of the revered Islamic cleric and Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
He described the cleric’s passage as a “monumental loss” not just to Nigeria but to the global Muslim Ummah, calling him a “colossus—an institution and one of the last great titans of Islamic scholarship.”

Shettima highlighted that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s commitment to dialogue and inclusivity represents the “true heritage of Islam.”
“We call on our emerging scholars to embrace the path of dialogue, moderation, accommodation, and inclusivity, because this is the true heritage of Islam—not fanaticism, not extremism,” he said.
He prayed that Allah would grant the late cleric eternal rest and grant his family and millions of followers the fortitude to bear the loss.
Governors who were also present at the burial ceremony delivered tributes to the late scholar.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as a “towering figure” whose legacy transformed Islamic education and uplifted countless families.
He noted that the cleric established a strong tradition of Qur’anic research and scholarship and had mentored so many people.
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State called the day deeply sorrowful, saying Sheikh Bauchi was widely known as an exceptional Islamic scholar who taught Qur’an and Hadith to hundreds of millions of people.
Governor Mohammed Umar of Niger State expressed gratitude for the cleric’s well-spent life, stating that he would be remembered as a distinguished scholar and leader.

Shettima and the governors emphasised that Sheikh Bauchi’s life defined moderation and peaceful religious engagement.
