In Angola, Shettima delivered Tinubu’s statement, which intensified Nigeria’s call for Africa to secure permanent seats with veto-wielding authority on the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
He noted that comprehensive reform of the global governance system is “long overdue.”
He also tasked the European Union (EU) with co-creating peace and security initiatives with its African partners, basing these efforts on African-led frameworks to achieve sustainable stability.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s firm commitment to advance peace, security, and democratic governance across Africa, and to collaborate with the EU to build a more stable, just, and prosperous world.
During the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, Tinubu’s message, delivered by the Shettima, focused on global economic and technological equity.
At the first session, he urged world leaders to establish a more equitable and responsive system to manage global financial flows and sincerely address recurring debt crises in a manner that meets the needs of all nations.
He noted that the existing multilateral frameworks no longer reflect the complexities of the present world.
At the third session, he called for a global framework that specifically benefits communities hosting critical minerals in Nigeria and Africa, ensuring value addition at the source.
