Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu bears a historic responsibility to redefine Nigeria’s future, warning that his failure to deliver could make governance even more difficult for those who follow him.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Sani described the Tinubu administration as a defining moment in the country’s political evolution, stressing that the president’s leadership will have long-term implications for Nigeria’s stability and progress.
“President Bola Tinubu has a unique opportunity to reshape and reconfigure the destiny of this country,” Sani said. “If President Bola Tinubu fails, I don’t think it will be easy for any other president to succeed.”
He urged Tinubu to prioritise competence over political loyalty in his appointments, drawing inspiration from his record as Lagos State governor.
“The standard he set in Lagos, where he brought the best people to lead, must now be applied nationwide,” he advised.

Sani also lamented the country’s divisive political culture, saying both the ruling class and the opposition often view each other as enemies rather than partners in national development.
“Our politics is so toxic that those in government see the opposition as enemies, while those outside power see the government as an enemy,” he observed.
The former lawmaker called on the president to take bold, reform-oriented decisions, even if such moves may initially be unpopular. According to him, real progress demands sacrifice, courage, and visionary leadership.
“No country dropped from heaven. China, Singapore, Indonesia — they all paid the price for progress,” he said.
Sani concluded by emphasising that Tinubu’s management of this critical period will determine whether Nigeria moves toward genuine recovery or remains trapped in cycles of political instability and economic stagnation.
