The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has assured Nigerians that the days of bloodshed in Benue State and the wider North Central region are numbered.
Speaking to journalists in Makurdi, Akume emphasised that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is wholly committed to ending the ongoing violence and restoring peace.
Akume highlighted that the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda places the safety and protection of all citizens as a top priority.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is clear. We will protect our people at all costs. Mr. President has given strict orders that these killers must be fished out and punished,” he stated.
The SGF’s remarks followed President Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, during which he personally assessed the deteriorating security situation.
Akume said the President was visibly moved by the suffering of displaced persons and victims of the violent attacks across the region.
“When the President came here, he saw firsthand the pains of our people. His directive to security agencies is unambiguous: leave no stone unturned in restoring peace,” Akume added.
Acknowledging the efforts of security forces operating in volatile areas, Akume called on political leaders, traditional rulers, lawmakers, and community stakeholders to unite in a common cause for lasting peace.
“I urge our governor, traditional rulers, lawmakers, and all leaders to speak with one voice. We must set aside our differences and work together for peace,” he appealed.

He also urged full support for the peace initiative he introduced during his tenure as Governor of Benue State, urging the current state government to mobilise all sectors of society to back this critical process.
Akume further disclosed that the Federal Government, through agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is actively addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing conflict, providing relief to displaced persons and affected communities.
Emphasising a comprehensive strategy, Akume said the government is combining military operations with development initiatives to tackle the root causes of violence.
“We are combining military action with developmental programmes to address root causes. I am personally committed to ensuring peace returns to Benue and the North Central. This administration will not rest until Benue people can sleep with their eyes closed. The era of impunity is over,” he declared.
The SGF’s firm stance marks a renewed commitment from the federal government to bring an end to the cycle of violence that has plagued the region, offering hope to communities long scarred by conflict.
