Following the consideration and adoption of promissory notes, the Senate has approved refunding N25 billion to the Nasarawa and Kebbi governments after the construction of Lafia Cargo Airport and Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin-Kebbi.
This announcement came shortly after the plenary session was held on Tuesday, stating that the sum of N9,542,651,786.11 is to be paid to the Nasarawa government while the Kebbi will receive the sum of N15,137,336,095.88.
The considered and adopted approval was from the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts report titled “Promissory note programme for the refund to Kebbi State and Nasarawa State Government on the newly constructed airport projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government.”
All recommendations of the committee were approved after the senators voice voted during the planary session presided over by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
Senator Haruna Manu, the vice chairman of the panel, presented the report on behalf of Chairman of the Committee, Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
During the committee findings and observation, it was said that both governments completed the projects duly.
According to The Nation Online report, it stated that the airport projects were carried out following the requirements, noting that two airports were inspected by the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
Additionally, it was noted that the state governments had fully mobilized the contractors with no outstanding bills.
