Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to housing and urban development, emphasising its crucial role in improving residents’ quality of life.
Speaking at the 31st Annual John Wood Ekpenyong Memorial Lecture and the ‘2025 Fellows Induction Ceremony’ of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV).
Sanwo-Olu highlighted his government’s achievements in housing over the past five years and pledged to accelerate the delivery of more affordable homes before the end of his tenure.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor commended NIESV President and Chairman of the Council, Victor Alonge, for the institution’s sustained collaboration with the state government in promoting sustainable urban planning and development.

Sanwo-Olu acknowledged NIESV’s contributions to Nigeria’s real estate sector and economic growth, stressing the need to reposition tenement rate administration—the central theme of this year’s lecture—as a strategy for broader economic development.
In appreciation of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, Sanwo-Olu received a prestigious Award of Excellence from NIESV.
He also extended congratulations to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who was conferred as an Honourary Fellow of NIESV, as well as the 52 newly inducted Fellows, lauding their contributions to the profession and national development.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, members of the National Assembly, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, other prominent traditional rulers, and Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, who served as the Father of the Day.
