Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has expressed his condolences on the death of Doyin Abiola, the wife of the late M.K.O. Abiola.
Abiola, who died on Tuesday at the age of 82, was celebrated as a trailblazing figure in Nigerian journalism.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu hailed the late Abiola as an “Amazon in the media industry.”

He highlighted her significant contributions to the growth of journalism in Nigeria, noting her historic achievements as the first Nigerian woman to serve as both an editor and managing director of a national daily, the National Concord newspapers.
Sanwo-Olu described her death as a significant loss to the media industry.
He praised her role as a mentor to many journalists, stating that she provided opportunities that helped numerous practitioners become leading voices in the profession and other sectors.
“Dr Doyin Abiola etched her name in gold in the media industry,” he said
Sanwo-Olu added that she made a positive impact not only through her professional career but also through her support for her late husband and her contributions to nation-building, particularly on gender-related issues.

The governor extended his sympathies to the Abiola family, friends, and colleagues, praying for her soul to find eternal rest and for those she left behind to find the strength to bear the loss.
