Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated his administration’s resolve to address the housing deficit in the state through strategic and innovative measures aimed at boosting the real estate sector.
Speaking at the 75th World Congress of the International Real Estate Federation, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai—highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to transform the housing landscape.
Themed “Global Real Estate Renaissance”, the event marked the first time the prestigious global gathering was hosted on African soil.
Mr Sanwo-Olu stated that the state government sees housing as a critical driver of economic growth, with far-reaching effects on employment, social wellbeing, and stability.
“Our administration is deploying a variety of innovative solutions to scale up the delivery of affordable housing. We have prioritised low- and middle-income earners through targeted budgetary allocations, while encouraging private sector participation via Public-Private Partnerships,” he said.
According to the governor, nearly 10,000 housing units have been delivered in the last six years, with over 14,000 additional units projected for completion by 2026.
These projects, he noted, aim to improve affordability, enhance living standards, create jobs, and stimulate broader economic activity.
He added that Lagos remains open to global partnerships, and is committed to adopting international best practices and sustainable development frameworks in its quest to meet growing urban housing demands.
