Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated the Lagos State Market Advisory Council (LASMAC) and charged its members to work towards improving market operations, enhancing security, and promoting fair and transparent trade across the state.
During the swearing-in ceremony held at Lagos House, Ikeja, yesterday, Mr Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of integrity in business transactions and urged traders to shun sharp practices.

He encouraged the newly inaugurated Council to adopt proactive, transparent, and inclusive approaches in addressing market-related issues.
The 21-member Council is chaired by the Iyaloja-General, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.
“Our markets are more than just places to buy and sell; they are vibrant hubs of culture, innovation, and social connection,” the governor said.
“They support the livelihoods of millions of Lagosians and are critical to our state’s economic growth. This administration is fully committed to supporting traders through thoughtful policies, infrastructure upgrades, and capacity-building initiatives.”
Mr Sanwo-Olu described LASMAC as a key platform for collaboration between government, market leaders, and traders to foster solutions and ensure that the voices of traders are heard and their concerns addressed.
He added, “Your success is directly tied to the success of Lagos State. With your dedication, we can modernise our markets, improve access to technology, and create safer, cleaner, and more efficient trading environments.”
Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, praised the inauguration as another milestone in the Mr Sanwo-Olu administration’s drive to strengthen market structures and sustain economic growth.

He explained that LASMAC’s establishment aligns with the state’s bye-laws and that its diverse membership was carefully selected to advance market development and meet stakeholders’ needs.
In her response, the Iyaloja-General, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, thanked the state government for its continuous support for traders and assured that the Council would faithfully serve as a bridge between the government and the trading community.
