Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a massive intervention package worth millions of naira to support the state council of the Nigerian Legion.
The donations were unveiled yesterday during the official launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund held at the State House, Ikeja.
The governor described the gesture as a “tangible way” to honour the sacrifices of men and women who fought for the nation’s sovereignty.

Sanwo-Olu’s contribution to the Legion this year comprised a combination of financial support, housing and logistics assistance.
He donated ₦100 million to the Legion’s Appeal Fund and provided four two-bedroom apartment units located in Ajara.
The governor also presented two brand-new pick-up utility vehicles to enhance mobility, alongside food items including four cows, 500 bags of rice, and other essential supplies to support food security.
“Our sovereignty as a nation exists because of these brave men and women,” the governor remarked. “This is our way of saying thank you for the sacrifices that allow all of us to live in a free and united country.”
The governor emphasised that remembering fallen and handicapped heroes is a “constitutional duty.”
He pledged that the state government would remain a steadfast partner to the Legion, ensuring that those who returned with life-changing injuries are not forgotten.
The event was attended by top military and security brass, including Brigadier-General A. O. Owolabi, Commander, 9 Brigade Air Commodore M. A. Imam, Commander, Sam Ethnan Air Force Base and Olohundare Jimoh, Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
The Commandant of the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion, Akeem Wolimoh, expressed deep gratitude, stating that no other state chapter in Nigeria enjoys the level of privilege and support seen in Lagos.
He noted that previous interventions have significantly improved the living conditions of members, with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) specifically helping dependents through skill acquisition and empowerment schemes.
