Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced his administration’s commitment to using innovation and technology to achieve sustainable growth and help Nigeria meet its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference 2025, the governor emphasised Lagos’s role as a hub for innovation and a key driver of the nation’s digital future.

The event, which brought together global tech giants like IBM, Meta, and Cisco alongside local startups, was a joint effort between the state government, KAOUN International, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Sanwo-Olu described the expo as a platform for building partnerships, sparking innovation, and setting the stage for Nigeria’s economic aspirations.
He noted that Lagos is home to 23 of Nigeria’s fastest-growing companies, underscoring its vibrant ecosystem.
The governor also praised the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, for his leadership in advancing AI infrastructure and digital solutions, which are transforming Nigeria’s position in the global digital landscape.
For his part, Tijani highlighted the intense pressure on Lagos due to rapid urbanisation, with the city welcoming about 2,000 new residents daily. He stressed the urgent need for a robust digital infrastructure to support this growth.

The minister also announced a new government-backed initiative launching on October 1, which will fund an additional 75 research projects in the digital sector.
He called for greater collaboration among startups, corporations, and the government to scale innovation and build a resilient digital ecosystem for Nigeria’s future.
