Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has declared a 50 per cent reduction in fares on the Blue Line rail service for Thursday, 4 September 2025, in celebration of the rail’s second anniversary of commercial operations.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday, highlighting the significant strides the Blue Line has made since it began serving the public in September 2023, along the Marina–Mile 2 corridor.
“In just two years, the Blue Line has transported more than five million passengers safely. Trains now operate at 10-minute intervals, completing over 90 trips daily. What used to be long, stressful journeys are now faster and more convenient,” the governor stated.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the success of the Blue Line as a milestone for public transportation in Lagos, noting that the rail service had not recorded a single accident since its launch — a feat he attributed to diligent planning and operational discipline.

“This project belongs to all of us. It is your trust and belief in a greater Lagos that has made this progress possible,” he said. “To mark the second anniversary, I am pleased to announce a 50 per cent fare reduction on the Blue Line for tomorrow, Thursday, 4 September 2025. If you haven’t experienced the Blue Line yet, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we’ve built together.”
The Blue Line, part of the broader Lagos Rail Mass Transit initiative, was launched to ease congestion and reduce commute times in the megacity. With over five million safe journeys recorded, officials view the project as a benchmark for further urban transport development.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure and mobility, Sanwo-Olu added, “Our journey is far from over. Step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire.”
The one-day fare discount is expected to attract new passengers to the service, as well as reward regular commuters for their continued patronage.
