The Rivers State Government (RSG) has signed a substantial Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative in waste management to sustain the state’s economy and create jobs, particularly for youths.
This initiative was announced after Governor Siminalayi Fubara signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth $300 million with Intec and Omene Group of Companies at the Ministry of Justice in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
The deal covers the Waste-to-Wealth project, a 200MW power plant, smart e-mobility, 20 tons of carbon capture and storage, along with other innovative ideas.
Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Rivers State Governor, stated that the initiative aims to convert waste to wealth, generate electricity, boost employment opportunities, and increase the state’s revenue base.
On behalf of Governor Fubara, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, expressed delight in the innovative collaboration.
Recalling the Investment and Economic Summit held in Rivers State in May, he noted its importance as it led to the establishment of the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency.
Highlighting the benefits of the partnership with the investors, he said 200 megawatts of electricity would be made available daily. He believes this will foster development and create the first waste-to-wealth project of its kind, utilizing modern technology.
While expressing appreciation to the RSG for this collaboration, the Chief Executive Officer of Omene Group, Otumba Omene, expressed satisfaction.
Srinibach Tepal of the Germany-based Intec Group praised the RSG for creating a business-enabling environment in the state, noting that the goal is to ensure a productive and speedy transformation of the state.
The event was attended by the Acting Sole Administrator of RIWAMA, Hon. Prince Ohia, Franklin Bottino of Intec Group, and others.
