Rivers State Government (RSG) has donated relief materials to the victims of flood in Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State.
While presenting the materials to the Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hon. Iyekor Ikporo, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Prof. Ngozi Odu, pledged to support the victims displaced by flooding in the state.
The donation exercise took place on Monday at the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Akinima, Headquarters of Ahoada West LGA.
Emphasizing the state government’s commitment to providing Rivers people with necessary basic amenities, Deputy Governor Odu said their goal is to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, Prof. Odu, noted that there are three phases to tackle during these difficult times.
Explaining the three phases, she highlighted that the first stage is the sensitization, which was held at Ahoada East LGA, noting that the second stage is the actual flood, currently experiencing it, and the last phase will be the post-flood intervention.
She said, “We are here to help you manage the situation you find yourselves in. We have taken note of the issues people raised; we have taken note of short-term and long-term effects, and we want to believe that action will be taken, so on behalf of the governor, I present these materials to you, the Chairman, and that you would extend them to residents of Ahoada West, indigenes and non-indigenes that do business in Ahoada West, more especially those in the IDP camps.”
The Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hon. Ikporo, appreciated the state government for their continued efforts and assured that the donated material will be distributed to the affected flood victims.
Dr. Patricia Wudhiga, a stakeholder, lauds the efforts of the RSG as they remember and prioritize the residents of Rivers State, particularly in the Ahoada West LGA after eight years.
Dr. Amadi Stanley, the Medical Officer of Health in Ahoada West LGA, acknowledged the community sensitization that has been executed, revealing that drugs and other medical consumables will be delivered to the affected victims.
