The Rivers State Government has called on Rotary International to intensify its role in fostering national unity, peace and youth empowerment across the country, especially at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with socio-political divisions and rising youth challenges.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the appeal on Friday during the All-Nigeria Rotary Conference held at the Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, the Governor applauded Rotary’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian service and charged the organisation to deepen interventions that promote tolerance, fairness and peaceful coexistence.
He urged the Rotary District of Nigeria to partner with the Rivers state government in providing leadership development opportunities and mentorship for young people to help redirect their energy toward positive endeavours and nation-building.

“The Rotary Club should partner with Government in mentoring energetic youths, to steer them away from social vices, and to direct their focus on positive endeavours that will help them realise their God-given potentials for their personal growth and service to humanity,” Governor Fubara said.
He further encouraged Rotary members to serve as mediators and promoters of unity, noting that the country needs more voices advocating equity and justice.
“Act as mediators, practitioners and propagators of ethnic and religious tolerance, fairness, justice and equity, peace and unity, to stem the tide of disaffection in the polity,” he stressed.
Governor Fubara also noted that Rivers State remains one of the safest and most peaceful destinations for business and tourism in Nigeria. He expressed satisfaction that the bi-annual Rotary Conference was hosted in Port Harcourt, describing it as an endorsement of the state’s hospitality and security stability.
Host District Governor for Rotary International District 9141 (2025-2026), Anthony Woghiren, commended members and delegates for sustaining Rotary’s mission of service, community development and positive global impact.
“As we gather in Port Harcourt for this landmark conference, we are inspired anew to unite for good, deepen our impact and prepare for greater possibilities ahead,” he said.
During the conference, Governor Fubara was conferred with the Peace Advocate Award by Rotary District Nigeria in recognition of his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace in Rivers State.
