The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly responsible for the abduction and killing of a man identified as Nwabueze Nchekwube after collecting a ransom of N6.9 million.
Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement made available to New Daily Prime on Monday, said operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emohua Annex, carried out the arrests during a coordinated operation on 19 September 2025 at different locations in Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The suspects were identified as Hassan Mohammed, 20, from Borno State; Bello Abubakar, 25, from Sokoto State; and Yusuf Ahmed, 23, from Bauchi State.

According to Iringe-Koko, they confessed to their involvement in a string of kidnappings across the state.
Among the crimes linked to the gang was the abduction of two men, Onwuli Jude and Nchekwube, on 14 September along School Road, Igwuruta-Atali.
The suspects also admitted to abducting one Mercy Chinyere on 12 September at the same location, for which they collected N3.5 million before releasing her.
Items recovered from the suspects included a G-3 rifle with breech number 10398, a magazine, the phone of one kidnapped victim, three short daggers, a jack knife, and a stainless short knife.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their bravery and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang and recover more weapons.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
