A former Niger Delta militant leader and now a traditional ruler in Rivers State, Asari Dokubo, has warned President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the 27 lawmakers in Rivers State against any attempt to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.
Dokubo, who holds the title of Da-Amakiri Tubo and Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom, urged them to abandon such thoughts, cautioning that any move to impeach Fubara could destabilize the state and lead to political unrest. He made this statement in a live broadcast on his Facebook page.
The former warlord’s warning comes as political tension in Rivers State continues to rise following the Supreme Court’s ruling that recognized the legitimacy of the 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers, who are loyal to Wike, have been reinstated, shifting the balance of power in the state’s legislative arm.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has denied receiving any letter mandating him to present the 2025 Budget to the lawmakers supporting Wike before midnight today.
In a letter to the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, stated:
“As of the close of work on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, we are yet to receive the said letter. Neither the office of the Governor, the Deputy Governor, nor the office of the Accountant-General of the State has received the said letter.”
Danagogo also reaffirmed that Governor Fubara, in his State Broadcast on Sunday, March 2, 2025, had made it clear that, despite his personal opinion on the Supreme Court judgments, he remains committed to obeying and implementing them as a law-abiding Nigerian.
“We have since been in contact with our lawyers, who are still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court’s judgments. We hereby reassure you and all the good people of Rivers State that as soon as His Excellency receives the judgments, he will strive to implement them promptly in the best interest of our people,” Danagogo added.
Meanwhile, tension continues to build across Rivers State as uncertainty looms over the next political developments. The people of the state remain on edge, unsure of what will unfold in the coming days.
