The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has pledged that justice will be served following the arrest of a suspect in connection with the killing of a 42-year-old man in Etche Local Government Area.
This Rivers State Police Command Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko shared this development on Wednesday via statement made available to the New Daily Prime.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Robinson Uche, was apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuohia Annex, on 6 March 2026 after what the Command described as sustained investigative efforts.
Police said the arrest is linked to the murder of Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, an indigene of Umuemeshie Community in Igbo-Etche, whose death occurred on 17 December 2025.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted involvement in the incident, stating that he and four others were allegedly recruited to bring the deceased to a location said to be associated with a community leader.
The plan, however, reportedly turned violent when the attempt failed, resulting in the fatal shooting of the victim.
Investigators further revealed that the body was taken to a bush in Ekerre-Ugbor, where it was buried in a shallow grave in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Following the confession, the suspect led police operatives to the site, enabling the recovery of the remains, which have since been deposited at the Military Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The Police Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals mentioned in connection with the case, who are currently at large.
Adepoju reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
