Over 16,158 Nigerians have signed a petition to ban Ozoro festival in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
This came after some women were reportedly raped during the festival on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
The petition which was organised by Arina Woods saw over 16,158 Nigerians signing it as of the time of filing this report.
The move began as an attempt to draw global attention to the tradition and demand an end to the practice.
The petition stated that the yearly festival, now called a “rape festival”, allowed men to attack women seen outdoors after 12 noon.
Earlier, videos were shared online, showing groups of men chasing, dragging and molesting women in the streets of the Ozoro community.
The petition pointed these out and called for urgent action against assaults under the guise of tradition.
Reports also showed that many victims of the Ozoro assault were female students from Delta State University or visitors who were unaware of the tradition.
These women were reportedly warned to stay indoors to avoid being attacked by rampaging groups of men.
To address the matter, reports maintained that the Delta State Police Command has intervened, confirming that officers have started arresting men involved in the assaults.
The petition continues to gain signatures as many call for the total abolition of the festival to ensure the safety of women in the state.
