The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 27 senior officers in the Nigeria Police Force. This includes 11 Commissioners of Police elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) promoted to Commissioners of Police (CP).
The 11 newly promoted AIGs are Umar Nadada, Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State; Mustapha Bala, CP Rivers State; Abayomi Oladipo, CP Ondo State; Taiwo Olatunde Adeleke, CP SWAT, FCID, Abuja; Ibrahim Abdullahi, CP Kaduna State; and Nwonyi Emeka, CP PPP, DLS, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Others include Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, CP Ekiti State; Zubairu Abubakar, CP Courses, Police Staff College, Jos; Fom Joseph, CP Homicide, FCID, Abuja; Emuobo Ekokotu, CP Admin, Airwing, Abuja; and Garba Yusuf, Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.
The 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police elevated to Commissioners of Police are Kayode Ojapinwa, DC SCID, FCT; Emmanuel Ighodalo, DC ZCID, Zone 8, Lokoja; Bose Akinyemi, DC SEB, FCID Annex, Lagos; Barayimil Samaila, DC DFA, Kogi State; Martin Nwogoh, fdc, DC DFA, Zone 2, Lagos; Shetima Mohammed, DC SCID, Nasarawa State; Ibrahim Gotan, DC DFA, Zone 2, Bauchi; and Rabiu Mohammed, DC Ops, Zone 3, Yola.
Also promoted are Olugbenga Abimbola, DC SCID, Ekiti State; Adepoju Adewale, DC Ops, Rivers State; Bello Yahaya, DC Anti-Money Laundering, FCID, Abuja; Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, DC Ops, DOO, AKPO, Bayelsa State; Hauwa Jibrin, DC DFA, FCT; Abayomi Shogunle, DC Ops, Osun State; Mohammed Baba, DC Ops, Akwa Ibom State; and Ezekiel Husseini, DC ZCID, Zone 3, Yola.
In a statement on Monday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani revealed that the newly promoted officers underwent rigorous written and oral examinations on December 16 at the commission’s corporate headquarters.
The Commission Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, emphasized that written and oral assessments will now be a mandatory requirement for all future promotions within the Nigeria Police Force. Argungu urged officers to prioritize self-improvement, adopt global best practices, and enhance their proficiency in information and communication technology (ICT).
The PSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring merit-based promotions, aligning the force with modern policing standards.
