President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, barely a week after returning from the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit in the United Arab Emirates.
According to a statement issued by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the Türkiye visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while exploring new areas of cooperation.
“The visit is expected to deepen bilateral ties and expand collaboration in key sectors such as security, education, social development, innovation and aviation,” the statement said.
Onanuga noted that President Tinubu’s visit would also feature strategic political and diplomatic engagements, with discussions focused on shared interests in finance, communication, trade and investment.

The programme of activities includes meetings between senior government officials of both countries and the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and protocol.
A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held during the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore areas of mutual economic interest.
Members of the president’s entourage participating in the bilateral engagements include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Other members of the delegation are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the state visit. Türkiye’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, last paid an official visit to Nigeria in October 2021.
The Türkiye trip comes shortly after President Tinubu returned to Nigeria on January 17, 2026, following his participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in the United Arab Emirates, which included engagements in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
During the Abu Dhabi summit, Nigeria signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the UAE, aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment, enhancing technology transfer, and expanding cooperation in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, mining and renewable energy.
President Tinubu also announced plans to host a joint Nigeria–UAE INVESTOPIA forum in Lagos in February to attract global investors, while using the international platform to push Nigeria’s climate finance agenda, with a target of mobilising up to $30 billion annually for green industrial and energy transition projects.
The back-to-back diplomatic engagements underscore the administration’s renewed focus on economic diplomacy, foreign investment mobilisation and strengthening Nigeria’s strategic partnerships on the global stage.
