The Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has apologised to Nigerians over the persistent electricity outages recorded across the country in recent months, attributing the situation to seasonal and structural challenges.
Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Adelabu described the disruption in power supply as temporary and expressed regret over the hardship experienced by households and businesses.
“I want to apologise, coming from me as minister of power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced,” he said.
The minister linked the situation partly to the dry season and extreme heat, which he said have placed additional strain on the power sector and affected economic activities.
“It is not our wish to find ourselves in this situation, but it is some factors that are actually beyond our control,” he added.

Adelabu assured Nigerians that the federal government is working round the clock to restore stability in the power sector and return to the improved performance recorded in 2025.
“We are working on it 24-7 to make sure that we go back to the trajectory of 2025, whereby you praised us,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the situation would improve within weeks, promising better generation and distribution, as well as progress toward achieving a 6,000MW supply target before the end of the year.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts by the government to address gas supply challenges, which have been identified as a major constraint to electricity generation.
Earlier, the Nigerian Independent System Operator had attributed the decline in power output to persistent gas shortages affecting several thermal power plants.
Adelabu reiterated the government’s commitment to improving electricity supply nationwide, assuring Nigerians that current challenges are being actively addressed.
