The Garden City is set to become the epicentre of Nigeria’s legal landscape as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) designated Port Harcourt as the host city for its 2026 Annual General Conference.
NBA President Afam Osigwe, unveiled the theme for the gathering, “Beyond Limits,” during a ceremony at the National Secretariat in Abuja yesterday.
According to Osigwe, the theme is a strategic mandate for legal practitioners to break traditional barriers and embrace innovation in governance and justice delivery.

The choice of the Rivers State capital is a deliberate move to ensure the NBA’s flagship event remains inclusive.
“Bringing the conference to the South-South region ensures that our activities resonate deeply with members across every geographical zone,” Osigwe stated.
Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Abdul Mohammed, assured members that early preparations are already underway to meet international organisational standards, promising a “high-calibre experience” for the thousands of delegates expected to attend.
In a major win for junior members of the bar, the NBA also inaugurated a state-of-the-art co-working space at the national secretariat.
Named after former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, the facility is designed to help young lawyers overcome the economic hurdles of starting a private practice.
The new hub features professional consultation rooms designed for high-level client meetings, as well as collaborative research zones equipped to support modern legal scholarship.
The project was funded by the Chairman of the NBA Welfare Committee, James Onoja, and coordinated by the Welfare Secretary, Auta Nyada, with a strong focus on staff welfare.
While paying tribute to Agabi’s legacy of mentorship, the NBA leadership urged local branches across Nigeria to replicate this model by establishing similar hubs at their respective bar centres.

The association confirmed that registration for the conference is now open.
While the speaker lineup remains under wraps, the committee promised a schedule that will challenge the current boundaries of the legal profession.
