The police detective in Nyahururu has intercepted and seized 22,000 litres of ethanol moved from Malaba border towards Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Through the Directorate of Criminal Investigation-Kenya (DCI) disclosure on their X page on Tuesday, it was revealed that two suspects, Victor Kitavi, the driver, and Dickson Wandera, were arrested after an attempt to flee the scene.
The “uncustomed goods,” as described by DCI, were intercepted following an acting intelligence of the Nyahururu sub-county head of criminal investigations leading the team.
According to DCI, the truck transporting the suspected ethanol with the plate number KCR 473G FAW was discovered to have loaded 88 drums (250L capacity) of ethanol in disguise as construction blocks.
More revelation noted that the truck, which belongs to Transmic Company, was initially hired to transport beans from Malaba border to Nairobi through the en route of Nakuru-Gilgil-Naivasha but was diverted to the Nakuru-Nyahururu-Nyeri highway.
The suspects have been taken into custody, according to the DCI report.
DCI revealed, “A multi-agency team comprising members of the sub-county security team and KRA South Rift officials has since documented the exhibits, which (alongside the suspects) have been taken over by the KRA team and escorted to the Nakuru KRA bonded warehouse for further legal processes.”
