The Enugu State Police Command has debunked claims allegeding the kidnapping of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office traveling from Benue State along this route, noting that no such incident occurred in the state.
On October 28, The New Daily Prime reported that on Saturday, a FRSC member identified as Emeason Chima was allegedly adducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Enugu State.
The force spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, shared this development on Tuesday and described the claims suggesting that Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road remain unsafe for road users as “unfounded, a product of scaremongering, and should be disregarded.
Also, the security command attached to Unity Division thwarted an attempted kidnapping on October 28, approximately around 7:10 p.m. at the Neke-Uno axis of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road.
Ndukwe said after an exchange of gun duel, the suspects took to their heels with gunshot wounds, leaving on AK-47 rifle, two magazines containing a total of twenty-two (22) rounds, and a chain of thirty-nine (39) live ammunition.
Ndukwe noted, “Further operations to hunt down the fleeing suspects the same night led to a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, reportedly kidnapped on October 26, 2024, escaping from his abductors’ custody.”
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has ordered the deployment of additional personnel and resources to bolster both overt and covert police operations along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road, reassuring the public of security and safety on the road and across the state.”
