A little lad’s dream was cut short after a stray bullet allegedly shot by a police officer in Ibadan, Oyo State, reportedly struck him, leaving him dead.
According to Oyo Affairs, the accident, which occurred on 20 May, claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified student who was on his way with his twin to write the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC).
The publication further stressed that the police officers opened fire on a fleeing vehicle around the Gbagi Market Road in Ibadan, and the bullet pierced the father’s vehicle, resulting in the death of the teenager.

Upon arrival at the Welfare Hospital in Ibadan, the student was declared dead.
The report noted, “Eyewitnesses report that a policeman, while trying to shoot at a vehicle they were chasing along Gbagi market road in Ibadan, hit an innocent school student with a stray bullet while he was in his father’s car.
“The student was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival (DOA).
“It was reported that the student, along with his twin, was on his way to write his WAEC exams this morning when the incident occurred.
“Protesters took the corpse to the Oyo State Secretariat to inform Governor Seyi Makinde,” Oyo Affairs added.
As of this press time, all efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, proved abortive.
