The Lagos State Police Command has classified the death of Bamidele Akingboye, the former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, as a case of homicide.
In its Saturday report, Channels Television stated that Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olorundare Jimoh confirmed that the long-awaited autopsy report has been received.
Jimoh said the development will enable investigators to intensify their enquiries and move towards criminal prosecution.

According to Jimoh, the autopsy, completed on 11 September, alongside fresh intelligence obtained during the ongoing investigation, prompted a new round of arrests.
He said seven individuals, drawn from an initial group of fourteen family members earlier invited for questioning, have now been re-arrested and remain in police custody.
Jimoh added that detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, are currently compiling the case file.
He said they are also awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) to determine the appropriate charges before the matter proceeds to court.
A central focus of the investigation is the suspicious transfer of ₦50 million from the deceased’s bank account, allegedly shared among some immediate family members shortly after his death.
“Now that the toxicology results have been concluded, we are waiting for the DPP’s advice so that charges can be filed against anyone implicated in this murder,” Jimoh stated.
Police launched the investigation after Akingboye was found dead under unclear circumstances on 3 September.
Family members and aides reported that his body was discovered in the backyard of his residence.
His eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, based in Ondo State, was the first to alert authorities, requesting a full inquiry into the suspicious nature of his father’s death.
