The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that a gospel musician has been taken into custody following the discovery of the bodies inside a studio located within the HFP Shopping Complex along the Abraham Adesanya corridor.
Those who lost their lives were identified as Mathew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya and Mathew Awosanya.
Police said three of the deceased were members of the musician’s band, while the fourth was a blogger contracted to handle publicity for an upcoming three-day birthday music concert.
Investigations revealed that the group had gathered at the studio for preparations and decided to remain there overnight. By morning, however, repeated attempts to reach them failed, raising alarm.
A report was subsequently made to the police by the husband of the studio owner. On arrival, officers and concerned individuals discovered that the studio was sealed from within. The door was eventually forced open, leading to the grim discovery of the four occupants lying lifeless inside.
Sources familiar with the case disclosed that meals had been provided for the group the previous night, a detail now being examined as part of the investigation.
The victims were transported to the Mainland General Hospital, where medical officials pronounced them dead. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Detectives were deployed to secure the scene, document findings and gather forensic evidence, as the case moved beyond routine inquiry.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Command, Abimbola Adebisi on Sunday, said the matter was initially handled by the Ajah Police Division before being escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
She confirmed that one suspect, described as the organiser of the musical event, remains in police custody, adding that investigators are awaiting autopsy results to guide further action.
Police authorities assured that the circumstances surrounding the deaths would be thoroughly examined and that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
