The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old girl, Princess Okolie, and her boyfriend, Prince Atigbi, for allegedly staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of ₦2 million from her parents.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, announced the arrest via his X page on Wednesday, noting that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit made the apprehension following a thorough investigation.
According to the victim’s mother, the incident began on 30 December when her daughter left home to get her hair done but failed to return.
After reporting her disappearance at the Obomkpa Police Station, the mother escalated the matter to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit when ransom demands started coming in.

“They started calling my daddy, making demand of money. How much can he offer, the man said has N40,000 that he is a farmer and he does not have money. They ended the call. Later, they started demanding for N2 million and he pleaded with them that he has only N100,000. They said N2 million or nothing,” the mother of the 21-year-old girl recounted in the interview video.
Ms. Okelu later confessed to staging the kidnapping because her boyfriend could not provide her with transportation money to return home after visiting him.
Prince Kedu, a suspects confessed that after the ransom money was paid, he kept N1.5 million for himself while promising to give N500,000 to Ms. Okelu. He claimed that the act portrayed by his girlfriend was done out of love.
The police condemned the fraudulent act and assured the public that legal action would be taken against the suspects.
