The Rivers State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the killing of Barrister Bright Owhor, 46, of No. 40c Market Road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt.
It was earlier reported that the lawyer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on 6 July 2025.
Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit were deployed to investigate the incident.
Following 10-day of intelligence gathering and technical surveillance, all individuals allegedly involved in the crime were identified and taken into custody.
Those arrested include: Prince Samuel, 30, said to be an armed operative; Daniel Godwin, 25, alleged driver of the getaway vehicle; Henry Peter, 24, described as the arms supplier and the person who fired the fatal shot; Godfrey Emmanuel, a.k.a. Ibu, 30, said to be the gang leader; Chukwu Nneji, 34; Justice Dimkpa, 27; and Promise Wikere, 22, alleged handler of stolen vehicles.

According to Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko said, “the suspects confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group. They admitted to their roles in the murder, the withdrawal of funds from the victim’s bank account, and involvement in recent cult-related violence between BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu, Port Harcourt.”
Items recovered during the operation include one MTN SIM card, four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, a mini bus, and a Toyota Camry.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their work, noting that the arrests reflect the Command’s commitment to safeguarding residents and dismantling criminal networks in the state.
