The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the apprehension of five trans-border gunrunners and recovery of arms.
The police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known on Friday via his X page, acknowledging the NPF’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a conducive environment for all citizens of Nigeria.
Adejobi elaborated that the security team is working tirelessly to prevent and combat all forms of crime and criminality.
Announcing the apprehension by the operatives of the FID-IRT, the alleged five suspects include Adamu Noma, Matthew Audu, Andrew Poyi, Aminu Sani, and Aminu Talha, all males.
He said, during the search operation, 10 locally fabricated Ak-47 rifles, 5 Isreali Ak-47 rifles, 1 revolver pistol, 1 pump action rifle, 20 rounds of Ak-47 ammunition, and 1 welding machine used for the fabrication of arms were recovered.
Adejobi stated that these achievements showcase the result of good leadership skills to decimate and subdue criminal activities and insecurity in general in the country.
Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, has issued a fresh order to his team, especially the tactical units, to flush out illegal arms and ammunition with the aim to neutralise local manufacturers of arms.
Adejobi stated, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has re-echoed his directive to operatives of the Force, particularly, tactical units, to mop up every illegal arms and ammunition, and see to the total dismantling of local manufacturers of illicit arms and ammunition and dangerous weapons by all means.”
