The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has warned contractors operating within the state that it will not tolerate substandard work or delays in the execution of projects.
The announcement was made by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Sunday Amuna, during a formal bid opening ceremony held at the board’s headquarters.
This statement sets a clear tone for what the board expects from its partners as it strives to enhance the quality of education in the region.
The event was centred around awarding contracts for the manufacture and supply of plastic classroom furniture for public schools. The contracts are part of the national competitive bidding process which encompasses the third and fourth quarters of 2021 as well as the first quarter of 2022.
Amuna further underscored the commitment of the state government to educational advancement by stating that Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has assembled an enthusiastic team dedicated to delivering high-quality services.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous standards, declaring that the team would ensure that only top-quality resources reach the students of Plateau State.
Amuna said, “We are resolute in our mission to elevate the standard of education and to ensure that the best resources are provided to our children.”
According to reports from our correspondent, the bidding process witnessed participation from five distinct companies vying for contracts related to lots 001 to 003.
The event, which was attended by key stakeholders, included representatives from the media, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), as well as security and anti-corruption agencies.
The transparent nature of this process reflects SUBEB’s commitment to accountability and integrity. Over the years, SUBEB has made significant strides in constructing and renovating educational facilities.
However, Amuna acknowledged that many of these structures remained unfurnished, a shortcoming that has rendered the learning environment less than conducive for students.
“It is not enough to build or renovate schools; they must be equipped adequately,” he noted, adding, ”This lack of essential classroom furniture has been a critical factor hindering effective teaching and learning.
”To address this pressing issue, SUBEB has embarked on this bidding process to procure necessary furniture that will facilitate a more conducive learning environment for pupils. “Our students deserve better.
“Providing them with appropriate furnishings is a crucial step towards improving the overall educational experience in Plateau State.”The emphasis on quality and timeliness in project execution is a reflection of the board’s broader objective to uplift educational standards in the state.
”By engaging contractors who share its vision of excellence, SUBEB aims to create an environment where students can thrive academically. The warning to contractors serves as a pivotal reminder of the board’s unwavering commitment to educational integrity.
”As Plateau State continues to strive for improvement in its educational infrastructure, all parties involved must adhere to the highest standards of performance. The future of education in Plateau hinges on collective accountability and the relentless pursuit of quality.
”With the proactive approach taken by SUBEB, the hope is that students will soon benefit from improved facilities that support their academic journeys, laying the groundwork for a brighter and more prosperous future for the entire state.”
