The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has turned himself in to the police following allegations of multiple rape and other offences capable of causing a breach of public peace, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed.
The case has now been transferred to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.
The development followed Okafor’s failure to honour an initial police invitation issued on Sunday by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti. Although his lawyers reportedly informed the police that he would appear on Monday, he did not do so, prompting the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, to order his arrest.
Speaking during an interview with TVC on Wednesday, Jimoh explained the sequence of events. “When he was invited, he got to us through his lawyer that he would be appearing on Monday. So, on Monday, we waited for him. We didn’t see him, and I directed that he should be arrested,” the commissioner said.
He added that the cleric later presented himself to the authorities. “Subsequently, he showed up yesterday (Tuesday). Yes, he showed up yesterday,” Jimoh confirmed.
According to the police commissioner, the matter was transferred to Zone 2 after it emerged that a parallel investigation had already been opened at the zonal headquarters under the supervision of the AIG. “I verified that the same matter is being investigated under his command for about three weeks now,” Jimoh said, noting that the AIG, as his immediate superior, would take over the case.
Jimoh also addressed concerns raised by alleged victims and the public, noting that social media has increasingly become a platform for reporting alleged abuses. “We no longer wait for people to come and see the matter before we act in public interest, because if we don’t, the conduct can lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.
The controversy surrounding Okafor began in mid-December 2025, when multiple allegations surfaced online. Nollywood actress Doris Ogala accused the pastor of a prolonged sexual relationship dating back to 2017, alleging broken promises of marriage, sharing of explicit content, and contributing to the collapse of her former marriage.
Amid growing public outrage, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on 28 December 2025, apologising for past “mistakes” and kneeling at the pulpit to seek forgiveness. Reports also indicate that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is considering disciplinary action, while the pastor has stepped aside from his pastoral duties pending the outcome of investigations.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that adequate security has been provided for alleged victims, adding that investigations at SCID, Panti, and Zone 2 are ongoing.
