Pa Ayodele Adebanjo, a prominent Nigerian nationalist and elder statesman, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on May 3, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by his children, Ms Ayotunde Ayo-Adebanjo, Mrs Adeola Azeez, and Mr Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo, on behalf of the Adebanjo family.
According to the statement, funeral proceedings will commence with a Day of Tributes and a Service of Songs at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, before the burial.
The main burial ceremony will take place on Friday, May 3, beginning with a wake at Adebanjo’s country home in Isanya Ogbo, Ijebu Ode.
The service will be followed by the interment and a reception to entertain guests at the family home.
A Thanksgiving Service will be held the following day, May 4, at St. Phillips Anglican Church, also in Isanya Ogbo, at 10:00 AM.
The family has called for support from well-wishers, political allies, and the general public, urging prayers for a dignified burial.
The statement reads: “We covet your prayers for the family and your professional support as we continue with preparations to give him a most befitting burial. We also look forward to your esteemed presence at all the events. Please accept the assurances of our highest regards.”
Pa Adebanjo, a key figure in Nigeria’s nationalist movement, was known for his unwavering commitment to the country’s development and unity.
His death has been met with widespread tributes from political leaders and public figures, including former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus and other key southern leaders.
As the nation prepares to bid farewell to one of its most influential leaders, the Adebanjo family has expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and solidarity in this difficult time.
