The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Peter Adubi, in connection with the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Ibadan.
The arrest was confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade. He said the matter was reported on January 8, 2026, at about 8:50 pm by the girl’s guardian.
According to the police, the guardian became concerned after noticing unusual changes in the child’s behaviour. When approached for clarification, the minor reportedly disclosed that she had been sexually abused in 2022 while living with her mother in the Molade area of Ibadan.
Ayanlade said preliminary investigations identified Adubi as the alleged perpetrator of the offence during that period.
The disclosure prompted immediate medical attention for the minor. She was taken to a hospital, where a medical examination was carried out to establish the facts of the case. The examination reportedly confirmed findings consistent with sexual abuse.
The police spokesperson said the medical report strengthened the investigation and informed subsequent actions taken by detectives.
Following this, Adubi was taken into custody, while officers also visited the alleged crime scene as part of ongoing inquiries.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Gender Desk, for further investigation. The unit specialises in cases involving sexual and gender-based violence, particularly those affecting children.
The state Police Command assured residents that justice would be diligently pursued. It urged them to remain vigilant, reporting any incidents of sexual abuse promptly, as community cooperation is vital in safeguarding children and ensuring a safer society.
