The Oyo State Government has announced the postponement of the Adire Carnival and Exhibition, which was originally scheduled to hold on Friday, 20th June 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, on behalf of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.
According to Olatunbosun, the decision to postpone the event was taken to ensure it meets global best practices and delivers a seamless, high-quality experience for attendees and guests.
He assured the public that a new date would be announced in due course and that all stakeholders would be informed accordingly.
The commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to promoting and preserving cultural heritage, stating that tourism remains a priority under Governor Seyi Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0 Roadmap for Sustainable Development.
“The State Government recognises tourism as a vital driver of economic growth, job creation, and internally generated revenue,” he said.
He cited the successful hosting of events such as the World Twins Festival, Egungun Festival, Iyake International Festival, and Aso-Ofi Festival as examples of the administration’s cultural achievements.
Highlighting the impact of the Aso-Ofi Festival, Olatunbosun noted that the state had introduced a policy encouraging civil and public servants to wear Aso-Ofi, revitalising indigenous textile production and reinforcing Oyo’s image as the “Manchester of Indigenous Textile Production.”
He explained that the planned Adire Carnival, organised in collaboration with BIZRAIT and Adire Odua, was part of the ongoing efforts to showcase local craftsmanship. However, the postponement was necessary to uphold the state’s cultural reputation.
Olatunbosun expressed gratitude to all partners and the public for their understanding and support as preparations continue for a rescheduled event.
